**POSITION TITLE:** Senior Manager of Production
**POSITION SUMMARY:**The Sr. Production Manager is responsible for the oversight and management of all production operations, including owned and contract layer and pullet farms. This position will direct all production activities, including profit and loss for all production operations; nutrition, flock health and flock performance; quality egg supply from owned and contract production; labor management; grounds, facility and equipment maintenance; and compliance with all regulatory and company policy requirements.
**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:**
* Continuously improve the performance of the production organization and all employees through effective people management. Set and review performance goals, provide for professional development of all direct reports and management employees, and establish succession plans and staffing strategies that support the long-term sustainability of Sparboe Farms.
* Participate as a leader in the cross-departmental responsibility for day-to-day operations and long-range strategic planning of egg supply. Collaborate with Sr. Processing Manager and Sales on supply/demand planning and forecasting. Inform operations peers of flock rotations and performance to prevent disruptions to the egg supply.
* Provide direction to the Production Business Analyst on the analysis and projections needed to forecast ongoing flock management needs.
* Direct the planning and execution activities to ensure the overall nutrition and health of layers and pullets and provide a quality supply of eggs from Production with a minimal number of chex.
* Manage the day-to-day operations and staff of Sparboe's feed mills. Collaborate with the Manager of Compliance to provide seamless execution of feed mill strategy.
* Establish procedures and management practices that ensure strict adherence to Sparboe's and UEP's Animal Welfare guidelines and Code of Conduct.
* Direct the development and maintenance of SOPs and training materials, labor utilization standards, and analytics to promote efficient staff and farm operations. Comprehensively assess all production management techniques and practices and lead continuous improvement activities to achieve optimal yield and cost management goals. Maintain production activities to be in compliance with all standards and prepared for customer and UEP audits at all times.
* Work in partnership with the Sr. Processing Manager to ensure seamless management between Production and Processing at each location. Establish processes and disciplines to lead effective collaboration between Production and Processing Managers.
* Direct all production activities to be in compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements.
* Collaborate with the Manager of Compliance and the Quality team to ensure work practices and procedures are in full compliance with requirements of the Sparboe Quality Management System.
* Manage manure removal to be in compliance with company procedures and contracts.
* Manage permitting requirements and tracking to ensure Sparboe's permits are current and meet the needs of the business.
* Collaborate with Human Resources to maintain working knowledge of and ensure compliance with company policy and employment laws and regulations.
* Oversee preventive maintenance activities needed to achieve and sustain maximum/optimal daily operating efficiency.
* Create strategies for facility and equipment upgrades and replacements to ensure wise utilization of financial resources. Develop and monitor procedures at all farms to maintain interior and exterior facilities, including buildings, equipment, and grounds.
* Provide oversight and assess Production capital needs and plans; collaborate closely with Processing Managers, Finance, site Production personnel, asset management staff and contractors, vendors and suppliers. Direct development of the annual budget for Production.
* Collaborate with the Safety Team to provide oversight of the Production Safety Program to instill and maintain safe work practices throughout the Production organization and provide ongoing assurance of a safe work environment among all Production managers and employees.
* Implement and review the company's SQF system and ensure the integrity of the operational functions of the SQF system.
* Communicates to relevant staff information to effectively implement the SQF system.
**SKILLS AND ABILITIES:**
* 7+ years' experience in the poultry industry and experience in shell egg production and bird health. BS in Chemical, Agricultural, Food, Industrial or Mechanical Engineering is helpful, but not necessary. Candidates with comprehensive
* Work experience in related areas without secondary degree may also be considered.
* Strong leadership, management and operational skills; ability to think, act and lead strategically.
* Strong advisory skills and interpersonal savvy; collaborative; ability to influence people in all roles and levels in the organization providing leadership and coaching as appropriate; ability to positively interact with management, customers, colleagues, vendors and suppliers.
* Superior abilities in cost and activity-based budget management; analytical; focus on accuracy and detail.
* Strong technical problem-solving skills and proven project management experience; continuous improvement experience and coordination of multiple projects simultaneously.
* Ability to discern quickly, capture the essence of a problem and make sound judgments from minimal information. Ability to translate observations into actionable plans; strong planning background and skills.
* Open and direct communicator; excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to pass on knowledge and information in a clear and confident manner.
* Quality management skills, knowledge and abilities; Lean Manufacturing/Six Sigma a plus
* Ability to be self-directed in an entrepreneurial, fast-paced environment
* Sound judgment and unwavering ethics
* Bi-lingual (Spanish) preferred
* Quick learner, ability to deal effectively with ambiguity
